Call for Papers:12th Annual Conference organised by Finland Futures Research Centre and Finland Futures Academy

Security in Futures-Security in Change
3-4 June 2010, Turku,FInland

This conference aims to look deeply into the inevitable changes of security issues. The traditional way we experience our existence in the world faces new challenges. The situation may feel obscure, fuzzy and even weird or frightening. Thus, it will increase and change the quality and quantity of security we demand from our communities. At the same time, awareness of the ways of interacting with the world is gradually slipping… Continue

Climate Talks!

Dear Friends,

Something big happened on Wednesday, November 3 at the United Nations climate talks in Barcelona. A delegate from the Gambia, speaking on behalf of all African countries, signified that Africa will not negotiate until rich countries make commitments on carbon emissions targets.

Africa staged a small revolution, and it was all because of you. Typically, delegates from small countries don't speak up forcefully, even if they disagree with what's being said. This time, they knew that… Continue

Vision 2020 and the New Society

By Olisaemeka Akukwe

“For lack of vision, my people perish”, so enthused the Christian holy book. ‘In spite of visions, my people perish’ is the Nigeria reality. Or so it seems. We have had litany of visions in Nigeria wearing different robes. Everybody ‘knew’ there will be “housing for all in the year 2000.” Everyone ‘knew’ there will be “health for all in the year 2000.” It’s 2009 now, I think. And the visions have been fast forwarded to 2020, with the typical panel beating. Top 20 economy in… Continue

Cervical Cancer

Where and what the cervix is

Inflammation of the Urinary Bladder- Cystitis

About cystitis

Cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder due to an infection or irritation. Anyone can get cystitis, but it's most common in women. Cystitis can be painful, particularly when you pass urine, but it usually clears up within a few days.

Urine is produced by each of your two kidneys and drains into your bladder through tubes called ureters. When you pass urine, the bladder contracts, squeezing urine out of your body through a tube called the urethra.

Usually cystitis onl… Continue

Combating Aids in the developing countries.

Combating HIV/AIDS in developing countries requires empowering people to act on their own. Focusing on prevention of HIV and on expanding access to antiretroviral treatment for people living with AIDS is critically important to the fight against HIV/AIDS, but alone this strategy is not enough to tackle the problem. Combating HIV/AIDS in low and middle income countries requires more than prevention and treatment—important as this two pronged strategy is. It requires improving the conditions under… Continue
